Gameplay of Colin McRae Rally 2.0 consists of rally mode and arcade mode. At the same time, I also became increasingly curious about whether this game can make all of this effort to be worthwhile. This whole process took me an hour, and left me exhausted.

After a long struggle, I finally figured out that the D-pad on my controller makes me regain menu control for a short while, so I navigated through the menu and saved my profile by rapidly tapping on the D-pad. Therefore, after setting up the controller, navigating through menu becomes impossible, as the game won't stop scrolling in every direction and messes up the keyboard input. The issue is that unlike many games that only recognize three axis on the controller - Left/Right on Left thumbstick, another Left/Right on Right thumbstick, and trigger buttons - Colin McRae Rally 2.0 recognizes five! I use Xbox One controller on almost every game I play, and Colin McRae Rally 2.0 has no problem recognizing it. Then I came across the biggest struggle for the gameplay - controller.

After a long while of web searches and looking through the tutorials, I was finally able to download the patches, install them by placing them on the root folder of my game, and click on CMR2.exe again. It turns out Colin McRae Rally 2.0 has a lot of compatibility issues and needed user-made custom patches to run on modern systems. After getting the game, I installed it and clicked onto the CMR2.exe. or just get the files from not-so-legal websites. The only way to get the game is to either look into used games shop, online stores like ebay. Initial strugglesĬolin McRae Rally 2.0 is, unfortunately, unavailable to be digitally purchased and downloaded.

Seeing many positive reviews back in the days and Youtube comments reminiscing about the game, I thought I should also give it a try - to celebrate its 20th anniversary, and to see if it's still enjoyable after the passage of 20 years. With recent release of Dirt 5, I looked into the world of rally games once again and realized that Colin McRae Rally 2.0 for PC(PAL)/Playstation(NA) is about to become 20 years old.
